Stars and Birds

6:02 pm   It has been a lifelong struggle for me to go to bed early.  By early, I mean at a normal hour of the evening… a 10 pm night is early for Ink.  A 12 am evening is average, and a 1:45 am “evening” is far too common.  What am I missing by sleeping later than most?  Birds.  I love birdsong.  For a timespan of about 3-4 years, I couldn’t hear birdsong.  It is pure auditory happiness for me to hear it now.  It speaks of a promise fulfilled in many ways: of healing, new mornings, and rainbows after floods.

And I miss it all in the name of creativity.

That’s the side of being a night-person that I haven’t touched on yet–

The creative Sparks that fill the sky:
Stars.

Another thing that’s dear to my heart; the open night sky, where the smallness of me and the hugeness of God collide in a shower of His light.  I love it.  I also find night to be immensely inspiring, and as such I easily find things to occupy my time until my body complains.  Then I sleep and miss the 5 am birds.

Quite the dilemma.  Egads.

What is to be done?

I am already living an unconventional lifestyle.  Why not flip it?  Stars are out at 4 and 5.  Birds wake up soon after.

Perhaps I’ll get to see both of my friends, back-to-back.  My body will be stronger, as night is good for the rebuilding hormones.  And it will deny other hard-working-family-members of bragging rights for making the morning coffee. (My true motivation? Of course not…)

Thus begins my second life experiment: sleep-change.  May it be as impactful and successful as the first change, daily writing.    6:18 pm

Clearly by my less-formed writing style, I'm Ink. Pen raised me, bottled my passion, and encouraged me to bring creativity and beauty to the world in a no-holds-barred form of art with words.
